Mary “Lynn” Jones was born to Andrew and Eleanor Kuta on August 18, 1944, in Southern California. Just before midnight on February 2, 2020, Lynn passed away peacefully in her Canby home at the age of 75, surrounded by family. Lynn was the eldest of three siblings.
Growing up, Lynn went to Catholic school in Downey, CA. During high school, she was the captain of the drill team. She graduated high school in 1962. Soon after, Lynn married James E. Jones. During their marriage, they brought life to five beautiful children: Lori, Julie, Timothy, Thomas, and James.
In 1979, their young family left their home in Southern California and came to Oregon City, Oregon. Lynn found a job as a teacher’s assistant at Carus Elementary. She dedicated more than 20 years of love, compassion, and guidance to children at Carus.
In her retirement, Lynn enjoyed traveling, near and far. Notably, she traveled to France, Egypt, Italy, and Israel. Closer to home, Lynn always looked forward to frequent trips to the Oregon Coast. She especially cherished the yearly trips to the coast with the gals.
Family was very important to Lynn. She always hosted family celebrations, birthdays, and holidays at her home. She was a wonderful, loving, and protective mother. She was always available to help and guide her children along. She also loved spending time with her 11 grandchildren. They all have wonderful memories with Grandma Lynn at the neighborhood pool in the summertime!
Lynn also loved indulging in dark chocolate, which she always would share with whoever was around. When it was time for a lunch date, you could be guaranteed that Lynn would take you out to a Mexican restaurant for mole chicken enchiladas and margaritas!
Lynn had a deep devotion to her Catholic faith. She made it a point to instill this devotion into all of her children, as well. She loved her parish community and was always willing to help others. Lynn attended weekly Eucharistic Adoration. Lynn is a Disciple of Jesus and Mary (DJM), which is a Catholic Apostolate of Lay Faithful serving in ministry in the church and to those in need. DJM offers ongoing training in Catholic formation enabling all to grow spiritually and work effectively in the world. Lynn responded to this call deep within and grew in Holiness. She is a shining light who faithfully lived her discipleship, serving her local parish and others. She also had a special devotion to the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Rosary.
Lynn is survived by her four children; Lori (David) Morton, Julie (Larry) King, Thomas (Terri) Jones, and James (Anna) Jones; her 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; and her sisters, Nancy Kuta and Jeanie (Mike) Kuta.
The service for Mary Lynn Jones will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church.
10:30am will be the rosary prayer, 11:00am Mass, and then a reception to follow.
Lynn’s favorite color was purple. The family has invited friends and community members to wear any shade of purple to the service.
Lynn also was very passionate and loving of children and babies. She did a tremendous amount of advocating and supporting for all children. If you find it in your heart, the Obria Medical Clinics (formerly Hope 360 Pregnancy Clinic) would be Lynn’s organization of choice for you to donate on behalf of her amazing life.
