Marjorie Markheim Olson
Marjorie was born in the Scotts Bluff area of Nebraska on January 22, 1925 and baptized into Christ’s Kingdom on March 29, 1925. She remained a faithful Lutheran until her death on February 6, 2020 in Gladstone, Oregon. A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 16000 S. Henrici Road, Oregon City 97045 on Saturday, February 22 at 10:00 am, followed by a luncheon. Interment will take place later at Willamette National Cemetery. In honor of Marjorie’s love for vintage hats, those in attendance are encouraged to wear their favorite vintage hat.
She ventured to Oregon in 1954 and worked for US West until 1981. In 1970, she met an entrepreneurial young man, Pete Olson, at Zion, Portland; later transferring to Triumphant King, Lake Oswego, and then joining Trinity, Oregon City in 1990. Church involvement was a special highlight of their life together and a strong focal point for many of their friendships.
Marjorie enjoyed gardening, music, women’s groups, raising cattle, traveling world-wide, her church and sharing her many blessings through philanthropic opportunities: Concordia University Portland, Portland Lutheran School, Trinity Lutheran School - Oregon City, and others. Her and Pete’s legacy will continue through the establishment of the Ninian and Marjorie Olson Endowment Fund at Concordia University, Portland.
As a parting gift for those she leaves behind, Marjorie wrote her own memorial service, “A Year of Songs,” based on the Church Year, as a tribute of her love for her Lord, her church, and her favorite Bible passages and hymns.
She is survived by her sister, JoAnn Philiips of E. Spokane, Washington; her brother Wilbur Markheim of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska; Pete’s children Merle Olson and Merrill Aiken; Pete’s grandchildren Troy Olson and Merle Olson; many nieces, nephews and close friends.
