Janice Rae Van Alstine passed away surrounded by family on January 20, 2020. She was 85 years old.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church February 8, 2020 at 11am. A reception will follow.
Janice was born August 16, 1934 in San Francisco, CA to Gordon and Mabel Goddard. She was an only child. Her family moved to Olympia, WA where she graduated High School. Growing up Janice spent a great deal of time at the Washington Coast visiting her Aunts, Uncles and Cousins that lived there, inspiring her love for the Beach.
Janice married Stanley Sulenes on December 26, 1953. They had 4 children. After divorcing, Janice married Arthur Van Alstine on May 8, 1977. She moved to Oregon City and they blended 2 families. Art and Jan enjoyed living in the country, planting a garden every year and having family gatherings. They both had a love for pets, having many cats, German shepherds and Poodles over the years. They were married 36 years.
In her younger years Janice enjoyed skiing, boating, sewing, gardening, canning and taking trips to the beach with her best friend Marie. In her later years she enjoyed spending time sitting on the front porch drinking coffee, enjoying her flowers and spending time visiting with family and friends.
Janice will be remembered for her love for the Beach, Elvis Presley, Allen Jackson, stuffed animals, coffee and especially chocolate. Also for her love for god, her love for her large, extended family, her sharp wit and especially her beautiful smile.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband Arthur and daughters Kimberly and Toni and her beloved Poodle, Muffy. She is survived by sons Greg, Brad, Mark and Brian, Daughters Debbie, Tammy and Holly, 18 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Janice will be deeply missed by all that new her.
