Obituary

Dale Archie Cummings was born on October 16, 1925 and grew up in SE Portland Oregon. He attended Benson High School and joined the US Army Air Corp at 18 years of age. The Army Air Corp was part of the Army in the 1940's and later became the US Air Force. Dale married Judith Saftenberg on 3-18-1945 and returned to Portland after being discharged in 1946. After that Dale had a nursery supply business for several years before starting work at Mayflower Milk in 1956. He had a Snap On Tool franchise for a while and even sold Studebaker automobiles in Oregon City, for a season. He returned to the nursery supply business in the1960's when barkdust became a large part of sales. Dale worked at North Clackamas School District and Lake Oswego School District supervising school bus transportation and maintenance from 1970 through 1985, when he retired. Soon bored with retirement, he started Dale's Barkdust up in 1986 and worked until his 87th Birthday in 2012. Dale enjoyed the Oregon coast and had beach cabins in Oceanside, OR that the family often visited. He enjoyed bird watching, occasion trips to casinos to play the nickle machines and loved automobiles, habitually reading a variety of automotive magazines cover to cover. Dale always had some kind of improvement project being planned in his head and he would find a way to teach you about it and persuade you to help with it. Dale was known to rescue animals and birds to prevent their suffering and often helped in laws neighbors and friends. Most of Dale's life was spent living in Milwaukie and he cherished the dungeness crab he found at Tony's Fish Market, during his last years, spent living in Oregon City. His love for fresh fried razor clams was unparalleled.
Dale is survived by daughter's Kathleen (Kitty) Thiel, Nancy Cummings, Janet Cummings, son Robert Cummings, his grandchildren Matt, Stephanie, Derek, Ryan, Travis and 10 grandchildren. Dale is survived by his wife Annabelle. They were married in 2014 and were able to enjoy the company of their dear friends and families during his last years with us.
