Norma Ruth Schumacher

August 29, 1932 - April 9, 2014

Norma Ruth SchumacherAugust 29, 1932 - April 9, 2014 Norma Ruth (Nelson) Schumacher was born in Randall, Minnesota to Norman and Ruth Nelson on August 29, 1932. She is survived by husband Russell Schumacher, brother Alan (Sharon) Nelson, son Dean Schumacher, daughters Ruth (John) Yeates, Becky (Bruce) Richardson, and four grandchildren, John and Maggie Yeates, and Taylor and Cassidy Richardson. The oldest of four siblings, Norma grew up in Little Falls, Minnesota with brothers Don and Alan, and sister Shirley. Russ and Norma met on the first day of college at St. Cloud State University in 1948. When Russ saw Norma in her green freshman beanie, he said "it was love at first sight". They married in 1952. After receiving her teachers Associate's Degree, Norma taught in Minnesota for one year before the couple moved in 1954 to Oregon to raise their family. Russ and Norma lived 'the good life' in West Linn happily married for 61 years. Over the years, Norma worked as a substitute teacher, teacher's aide, fashion retail clerk and was a member of the Ladies Lion's Club. Norma was a dedicated wife and mother, and had many close friends. Her favorite times included dancing, picnicing, social affairs with friends, holidays, card games, sewing, and painting. "Grandma" Norma was crazy about her grandchildren and spent every minute possible with John Jr. and Maggie (Ruth) and Taylor and Cassie (Becky). Whether sewing matching outfits for the granddaughters, or baking holiday treats (Norwegian "Krumkake" was one of her specialties), Norma always had time to play with the kids. Together they built forts under her kitchen table, and enjoyed the hot tub on Russ and Norma's deck. Loved by all, Norma will be fondly remembered and truly missed. Donations can be made in Norma's memory to Key Bank in West Linn. A memorial service will be held at the Oregon City Elks Lodge on Saturday May 3, at 1:00 pm.
