Lyle Dean Walters, Sr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Lyle Dean Walters Sr. Of Oregon City, Oregon passed away at age 88 on October 1, 2021 in the comforts of his home.Lyle was born October 22, 1932 in Oregon City. He attended Oregon City High School where he played football and lettered in wrestling. At age 18 Lyle enlisted in the US Navy from Jan 1951-1954. He spent two years overseas on an aircraft carrier, the USS Yorktown CVA10. After fighting in the Korean War, Lyle was honorably discharged on Oct. 22, 1954 and received the Navy Presidential Unit Citation award, National Defense Service medal, United Nations Service medal, Korean Service medal, Good Conduct medal and the China Service medal. He worked at Crown Zellerbach papermill (Simpson papermill) from 1950-1994.In Lyle's younger days he enjoyed training his dogs to hunt with his pet racoon, raising pack horses, backpacking in the Eagle Caps, hiking to the top of Mt. Hood, South Sister and the Pacific Crest Trail. He loved all things outdoors, astrology, camping under the stars, fishing, riding motorcycles, farming, golfing, thrift shopping and all you can eat buffets. Lyle loved telling stories about his life growing up, going to State in wrestling, boxing with 104 fights only 2 losses, his time in the Navy, trips to Alaska, Japan, Tijuana, riding his BSA motorcycle over the arch of the Oregon City Bridge and how he worked as a teenager in the fields all summer before and after school so he could purchase his mother her first home, and his prized possession, a 1950 Jaguar XK120. In the summer time Lyle spent his time traveling with his kids and extended family to recreational parks and historic places in Canada, Washington, Oregon and California, teaching them wilderness survival and life lessons.Lyle was a beloved Father to 4 children and Grandfather to 9 grandchildren.Lyle is survived by his 3 children Lylajean Fulmor (Nick), Sabrina Thompson (Micky), Lyle Dean Walters Jr. and grandchildren Davina M, Hailey H, Leithan T, Kinley W, Reagan T, Rylee W, Cobden W, Tauran T, Andreas F. Extended family Maxine Brazer, Mike Vorpahl, Beatrice Reid, Maureen Knorr.Lyle is proceeded in death by his mother Anna Tercek, Father Floyd Walter, and son Lyle Gene Walters.Pallbearers will be Lyle D Walters Jr, Sabrina Thompson, Lylajean Fulmor, Leithan Thompson, Mike Vorpahl, Micky Thompson.Honor Guard Service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 12, at Mountain View Cemetery, Mausoleum unit 6. 500 Hilda Street, Oregon City, Or.
