Lon Lavon Keeney

Lon Lavon Keeney passed away on June 16, 2012. He was 93. Lon was born in Lucas County, Iowa, to parents Lon and Minnie Fay Keeney. He was raised in Iowa, and graduated from Chariton High school in 1937. Through his life he worked many different jobs, such as meat cutter, coal truck driver, farmer and papermaker, until his retirement in 1984. He moved to Gladstone in 1947 and lived there until his death. Lon was a member of the Oregon City Church of the Nazarene, where he served as treasurer for several years. He was very active in the church until his health began to deteriorate. He also helped to establish and start the Gladstone Nazarene Church. He loved to take his sons fishing. He is survived by his wife, Olive; two sons, Donald of Beavercreek and Robert of Canby, as well as grandchildren Ed and Steven Keeney of Lebanon, MO, Dawnine Deeds of Redland, and Lynnette Strickand of Estacada. Lon also leaves behind 17 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, sister Marguerite Bingham, Brothers Kenneth and Keith, and grandchildren Lori Keeney and Donald Keeney, Jr. A graveside service was held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Mt. View Cemetery in Oregon City, Oregon. Memorial contributions may be made to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
