John (Jack) August Pooschke

November 21, 1930 - December 11, 2017

John was born in Shelton, Nebraska to Oscar and Theresia Pooschke. John was the third born of six children. He is survived by his son Michael and his youngest brother Richard. John graduated from Benson High School in Portland in 1949 and played 2 years of varsity baseball. In July of 1949, John enlisted in the Army and obtained the rank of Sergeant First Class. John served in the Korean War where he engaged in heavy combat and distinguished himself earning the Bronze Star. In 1952, after leaving the Army he met his wife Bonnie and was married the same year. After 41 years of marriage Bonnie passed away from heart disease in February of 1994. John never married again. John's passion was Baseball and he played City League Baseball for many years well into his forties. At that time John also owned and ran a 76 service station on 55th and Burnside and sponsored his own team, the 76 Royals. In the late 60's John sold his business and went to work for Ace Mathews Dog Shows where he enjoyed his other passion, dogs. John was an AKC representative as well as setting up shows and also ran the graphics portion of the business. John retired in the mid 1990's and lived in Milwaukie for a number of years before moving into an apartment close to his son in Oregon City.
