Arthur Frank Schoenborn beloved husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather quietly passed away at home September 17, 2013. He was born November 18, 1918 in Oregon City, Oregon to Henry and Kate Schoenborn. He attended a one room school in Eldorado for his elementary years, Jr High at Eastman School, then to Oregon City High where he graduated in 1936. He received a military commission as a 2nd Lt. in the Field Artillery reserves upon graduation from OSC (now OSU) in 1940. He requested a transfer to the Chemical Warfare Service and later became a US Air Core Pilot. Art served as an officer in three different branches of the army as well as spending time in infantry school. As a pilot, his favorite plane to fly was the B 17. He had many interesting experiences as a pilot and enjoyed talking about them. He was also a flight instructor.At the beginning of his senior year at OSU he met Doris Brown and on November 21, 1941 they were married. After his military service ended, Art bought a half interest in the old Molalla brick and tile plant and, along with two different partners, operated it for 10 years. He then went to work for the state of Oregon in Salem as an Industrial Hygienist and worked in that capacity until he retired.Art's relationship with God and with his wife and family were a key part of his life. He taught adult Sunday School classes, lead home Bible studies, and with the Gideon's, conducted jail services in Clackamas County Jail. After moving to Salem in 1959, he also became active in Child Evangelism Fellowship as both a local board chairman and a state board chairman. He loved fishing and taking care of the farm. Later became a master gardener and had over 100 varieties of grapes. Some of his grape starts were sent all over the world.Arthur was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Kate Schoenborn, brother Richard Schoenborn, sister Marjorie Dunton and son Roger Schoenborn. He is survived by his wife Doris Schoenborn, daughter Janet Walker (Ray), Roger's widow Ili Veley (Chris), son Paul Schoenborn (Kay), sister Virginia Burley, brother Walter Schoenborn, grandchildren Karen Aguilar, Mark Walker, Helena Hennigan, Priscila DeMaris, David Schoenborn, Hannah Schoenborn, Michael Schoenborn, Anne Ewing, Elizabeth Tierce, and Andrew Schoenborn, plus great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.He will be greatly missed! The graveside service will be at Willamette National Cemetery, and the memorial service will be held at Salem Evangelical Church on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
