Patricia “Joy” Bird greeted the world in Seattle, WA on June 30, 1932 and departed it of natural causes in her West Linn, OR home on March 6, 2018. Her memorial service will be held on March 28, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Lincoln Memorial Park, Mt. Scott in Portland.
Joy’s parents, Beth Burton Bird and John Clifford Bird lived in Portland, where Joy continued to live the majority of her life. Joy attended Vestal Grade School and Washington High School, was an Honored Queen of Bethel, and attended Vanport College (predecessor to Portland State University.)
While at Vanport, Joy met Floyd Parks whom she married and spent happy times with on Mt. Hood, building a cabin in Government Camp and enjoying skiing and an outdoor life. Joy loved Camp Namanu and left a Charitable Trust to benefit the Campfire Organization.
One of the early employees of Tektronix, Joy continued to work in the hi-tech field for over 40 years. After her marriage to Floyd ended, Joy married Donn Velte, and they lived in Lake Oswego while running Velte’s Lamp Market in oldtown Portland.
In her later years Joy reunited with childhood friend Harold Widman and enjoyed time with him and his family and friends in Estacada, OR.
Joy is survived by her daughter, Holly Parks Iburg, son-in-law Chris Iburg and grandchildren, Matt (wife Eilza), Leslie and Jeff (wife Megan Neely).
A Master Gardner and lover of animals, Joy had 4 exotic birds as pets. The family requests that contribution be made to Exotic Bird Rescue of OR www.rescuebird.com in lieu of flowers.
