Alvie Matthew (Al) Stults, 86, from Oregon City, passed away Saturday, October 26 at home from chronic renal failure, surrounded by his family.
Al was born July 16, 1933, in Marlow OK to Jesse and Beulah Stults, the youngest of three siblings. After graduating from high school, Al joined the Navy in 1951 serving on the U.S.S. Curtis and U.S.S. Oriskany during the Korean Conflict. With the GI Bill, he attended the University of Oregon, always knowing as a child in Oklahoma he would come to Oregon. He taught high school in Alsea, OR and Snohomish and Burien WA. He enjoyed the kids but said the politics of teaching was not to his liking so he joined "TBC"--The Boeing Company for a while and then joined IBM and so began his 25 year career as a systems engineer.
In 1975 Al married his soul mate, Pat, and together had many adventures, particularly in the great outdoors. They were members of Mazamas and hiked many trails in the gorge and coast mountains. Al climbed Mt Hood 18 times as well as Mt St Helens, Rainier, all three Sisters, Broken Top, Jefferson, Glacier Peak and Mt Adams and also hiked in the Grand Canyon.
Al is survived by Pat, his wife of nearly 45 years, sons George (Mike) and wife Gail, Jerry, Gregg and wife Dina, David and wife Trina, daughters-in-law Susan and Jennifer, eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by sons Richard and Daniel, brothers Wesley and Richard and sister Lois.
