Kathryn A Dittmar

Harrisburg- A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25, at Harrisburg Christian Church for Kathryn "Kay" Dittmar, formerly of Harrisburg, who died Nov. 25 of age related causes. She was 98. Kay was born Sept. 22, 1921 in Rockford, Iowa to Ihne and Anna Voss, joining 3 older brothers; Sylvester, Kenneth, and Warren. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to Carleton, Neb. to be near family. She attended school and graduated from Carleton High School in 1940. Afterwards, she moved to David City, Neb. to work in a doctor's office. In 1941, she traveled to Ft. Leonard Wood to see her brother while he was in US Army. There she met the love of her life, Victor, and they remained a constant while Vic served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Vic was discharged in July 1945 and they married on December 16, 1945. They settled in Julesburg, Colo. where many of Vic's family lived. While Vic started work as a mechanic and in parts service, she set up home and started her career of volunteering. Kay began serving the local Lutheran church as a youth Sunday School teacher and joined the Ladies Aid Society. She also kept active assisting the many local family events such as monthly reunions, birthdays and anniversaries while doing the same for family in Nebraska. Children, Darwin and Richard, came and she loved supporting them. Later she added being den mother for Cub Scouts to her roster of activities along with working in a department store. In 1964 the family traveled to Oregon on vacation and they were smitten. They moved to Harrisburg in 1965. Kay started work as a custodian for the Post Office and after a few years became a custodian at Harrisburg High School. After retirement, she started volunteering at Harrisburg City Hall, Linn County Sheriffs SALT (Seniors and Law Enforcement Together), Veterans Foreign War Ladies Auxiliary, and supported Harrisburg High School sports by selling tickets. Vic and Kay traveled often to the Midwest US to visit family. There were many trips to Portland and Texas to spend time with grandchildren. Victor passed in 2009 and Kay moved to Junction City Senior Living in 2010. She remained there until April 2018 when she moved to a nursing facility in Portland. She passed peacefully on November 25, 2019. Survivors include two sons, Darwin (Sandy) of Gladstone, and Richard (Jodie) of Lake City, Fla; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Remembrances to Harrisburg High School or Harrisburg Fire Department.
