Wilbur Dewight Peik, age 97, left earth’s dark shadows for God’s everlasting light on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Wilbur is safely home at last in the arms of Jesus. Wilbur’s love and devotion from his family, his love and firm belief in God supported him during the dark days of illness; this ultimately gave him peace.
Wilbur was born to the late Edmond and Nellie Peik in Oregon City, Oregon, on February 18, 1920.He attended West Linn High School, West Linn, Oregon, and the World Bible Way Fellowship, Irving, Texas, where he became an ordained evangelist. Wilbur served in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Camp Zigzag, Oregon, between 1938 and 1939. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Army Air Forces from 1942 to 1945. During his time of service, he was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.
On March 21, 1945, Wilbur married the love of his life, Florence M. Goerg, in Lake County, Indiana. Wilbur and Florence were blessed with 57 years of marriage and four children. Wilbur worked at the Douglas Aircraft plant, Long Beach, California. After moving back to Oregon, Wilbur took a job with Dammasch State Hospital, where he retired after 20 years. He then took a position at the Canby Grove Conference Center, Canby, Oregon.
Wilbur is survived by his daughter, Darlene Peik, and son, Dennis Peik, of Oregon City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Florence, his son William, and daughter Coleus.
Wilbur attended the Canby Church of God, Canby Oregon. His wish was to see the church install an elevator.
In memory of Wilbur and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Wilbur’s name to the Canby Church of God elevator fund.
A memorial service will be held at the Canby Church of God, 522 NW 2nd Ave, Canby, Or 97013, on Sunday, July 23, 2017, 10:30am.
Private Interment will be held at the Willamette National Cemetery.
