Welcome to the memorial page for

Katrina Maureen Martin

April 15, 1984 ~ August 22, 2017 (age 33)

Katrina and her twin sister Maria were born 11 weeks prematurely and Katrina weighed just a little over two pounds at birth.  After spending many long weeks at Emanuel Hospital, the twins were allowed to come home and they were the stars of the household.  Katrina was diagnosed early on with Cerebral Palsy, a seizure disorder, and vision impairment.  Katrina didn't let this hold her back and she lived her life with joy.  Katrina loved music, food, her family, and all the caregivers in her life.  When she was young Katrina loved to play on the floor with all her toys and she especially enjoyed banging away on a little electric piano.  Katrina loved swimming and she would laugh and laugh when we played "toss Katrina or catch Katrina" in the water.  Katrina was beautiful, curious, stubborn, funny, charming and sweet.

Katrina is survived by her parents, Ron and Terese Martin, and her sisters, Maria Martin Mitchell and Rachel Martin.  Katrina loved her sisters and she was especially close to her twin, Maria.  During the early years we would often find Maria curled up in Katrina's crib in the morning.  Maria somehow managed to climb out of her own crib, climb into Katrina's crib, and then cuddle with her sister.  Rachel, Katrina's younger sister, misses Katrina very much but she is joyfully imagining all the things her sister is doing in heaven.

Katrina spent most of her school years at the Oregon School for the Blind in Salem, Oregon.  We met many wonderful educators and therapists throughout Katrina's school years.  Katrina lived at the Albertina Kerr Center at Lindenbrook Court in Milwaukie after her schooling was finished.  Again we met many wonderful caretakers, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers.  As a family, we were blessed by having so many special people in our lives.

Katrina is now home with Our Lord.  We can only imagine her joy as she was enfolded in the arms of God.  Free at last from her body's limitations, Katrina is probably dancing, singing, and embracing loved ones in heaven.  Katrina's sister Elizabeth predeceased her in 1982 and we are comforted at the thought of the sisters embracing in heaven.  We will miss our precious girl ... her laughter, smiles, and joy.  Our hearts are filled with thankfulness that God entrusted this special little girl to our care for 33 years.
