JoAnne Marie (Childers) HaneyOctober 27, 1947 ~ July 9, 2017 (age 69)
JoAnne Marie Haney Born 10/27/1947 and passed away 7/9/17 at the age of 69 with her family surrounding her. Her final month was spent at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center where she was treated with unbelievable kindness and compassion. JoAnne was born in Portland to Alvin and Mildred Childers and later became a big sister to her brother Dennis. The family spent time living in The Dalles and JoAnne had fond memories of later growing up in a beautiful cabin along the McKenzie River. She reminisced of fishing for trout with her dad and visiting the swimming hole on hot summer days. After graduating high school JoAnne earned an Associated Degree and worked as a secretary at the Veterans Hospital. Then spent time working at the Parry Center in Portland. Soon JoAnne met the love of her life Joe and they were married September 1st 1972. Joe and JoAnne later had two daughters. JoAnne loved being a wife and mother. She was a “Country woman all the way!”, as Joe puts it. She enjoyed cooking good food for her family, canning, sewing and raising livestock. She was passionately involved in her church where for many years she volunteered. She also enjoyed being a 4-H leader and helping her daughters prepare and enter sewing and cooking competitions and show the pigs they raised at the fair every summer. JoAnne loved spending time at the beach, specifically Lincoln City where she had gone since childhood. Family was JoAnne’s primary focus in her life. She was very close to her great aunt and uncle and spent countless hours caring for her mother and father. She also loved being a good friend. After being a stay-at-home mom while her children were small, JoAnne began working for the Multnomah ESD where she spent years as a secretary. She developed deep and caring friendships with her coworkers that extended the rest of her life. JoAnne is survived by her husband Joe and daughters Jeannine, Jennifer and son-in-law Kevin who will miss her deeply.
