Carolyn Helen (Sweney) HunterMarch 5, 1921 ~ August 18, 2017 (age 96)
Carolyn Helen Sweeney was born to Dorothy and Arthur Sweeney in Endeavor Wisconsin on March 5, 1921. She was an only child. Carolyn graduated from Central High School, Madison Wisconsin , in 1939 and Columbia County Teachers Normal in 1942. It was at Crescent Lake Bible camp where she committed her life to Christ and began praying for a husband who would love God more than anything. God answered her prayers in the person of JQ Hunter. They were married December 29, 1943. The next day they left by train for Oklahoma where JQ would introduce his new bride to his family.
JQ and Carolyn have 6 children: Dorothy Louise, Paul Dean, Barbara Ruth, John Alan, Ronald Earl, and Marsha Gail. They also had numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
These are the details of her life - but she was so much more. Her sole purpose in life was to glorify God, whom she served without question, and in doing so touched many lives; both locally and abroad. She and JQ served with Village Missions nearly 40 years, after which they went to Russia with Navigators where they lived and ministered for a year. They celebrated their 50th anniversary while in Russia. They also served and ministered to many missionaries on the foreign field in places such as Irian Jaya, the Philippines, and South America. They also went to Germany with Overseas Christian Servicemen's Centers.
Carolyn was committed to and enjoyed spending time with her family who describe her as being selfless, kindhearted, gracious, loving, faithful, strong, courageous, nurturing, gentle, willing to try new things, compassionate, steadfast, dependable, leading by example, made everyone feel welcome and comfortable, hospitable, and the most Christ-like person they've ever known. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. In Lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the Village Missions.
